School's Language policy

Zagreb School of Business Language policy aims to provide guidelines for language use at this school. This policy works in concordance with school's vision and its strategic plan. Croatian is and shall remain the primary language at Zagreb School of Business while English language competence shall remain high. Websites and documents/publications shall be accessible for English speakers. Relevant parts of the University’s website will be available in both Croatian and English.

English shall be used in order to:

  • Attract highly qualified foreign researchers and teachers
  • Improve all students’ abilities to communicate and interact in international situations
  • Encourage and stimulate student mobility and attract exchange students to Croatian universities
  • Encourage and stimulate domestic teachers’ and researchers’ mobility.

Course materials for introductory level classes shall, if possible, include textbooks in English. Course materials for advanced level classes shall be in English to a great degree. For students who do not have Croatian as a mother language or English as their first foreign language, there will be support systems available for both languages.

The number of professional papers produced in English at Zagreb School of Business is increasing. Professional papers written in Croatian must include an English language summary, and those professional papers that are written in a language other than Croatian must include a summary in Croatian. The authors of recently defended professional papers shall be encouraged to publish their work in English or another relevant language.

International contacts and international peer reviews are prerequisites for attaining high quality research within an international context. School's researchers are encouraged to contribute to the international research environment by publishing work in English and other relevant languages as well as by participating in international conferences and exchanges.

Outgoing Students

Zagreb School of Business seeks to ensure that outgoing participants are able to either speak the language of the country that they are visiting, or that they are teaching or studying in a language that they are able to speak. Students who are not able to speak the local language are encouraged to take language classes before they start so that they are able to communicate with others on a daily basis.

Incoming Students

Upon arrival at Zagreb School of Business students whose first language is not Croatian or English can meet with members of the International Students Office.  Based on a student’s needs and preferences and in consultation, they may be offered support to strengthen their Croatian or English language skills to support their studies.  Support is offered throughout their stay at Zagreb School of Business.

Zagreb School of Business encourages linguistic diversity in both students and employees. All employees are given the opportunity to partake in international exchanges.
